If you are a fan of boxing then Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson may not be unknown to you. In fact, they were two top rated boxers of late 80’s and early 90’s. Now, the two middle aged boxers are gearing up to take on each other in a bout due to take place at the Melbourne Vodafone Arena on 24 June. Australian boxer Jeff Fenech is now at 43, while his Ghanaian competitor Azumah Nelson is 49 year old. The two legendary boxers faced each other twice, with the first bout being held in a draw and Azumah Nelson winning in the second. Though they are coming back to ring after a long time, boxing fans are exciting over the upcoming bout of these two boxers. Whilst I feel the ’Marrickville Mauler’ decision to make a comeback 12 years after he last fought to face Nelson is partly fueled by revenge and redemption my esteemed and respected Australian colleague Paul Upham insists it is Jeff’s fighting spirit that drives him on.
“Jeff is a fighting man and he loves to fight,” insists Upham. “ It’s what he loves to do. Azumah is the same, they both love the rivalry, the competition.”
It is in deed is going to be an exciting match. You can expect to see the two once great players playing in similar fashion. Age must have taken some tool from both of them, though considering their fighting spirit and strong mentality in the ring enough to attract the fans, what they did throughout of their career. Now, let us see if Jeff Fenech can take the revenge of his defeat or Azumah Nelson emerges winner again at the home ground of Jeff Fenech.
