Juan Manuel Lopez Defeated Olivier Lontchi to Defend WBO Super Bantamweight title

Juan Manuel Marquez successfully defended his WBO Super Bantam weight title yesterday with a nine-round knock out victory over Montreal-based Cameroonian Olivier Lontchi. With this victory, Marquez defended the title for the fourth time. Lontchi showed some brave move in the bout, despite the overall dominance of Puerto Rican boxing star. Specially, Lontchi surprised everybody by outperforming his opponent in the fifth round. However, Marquez bounced back and did not give any more chance to the young boxer in the following rounds. Lontchi was so injured in the ninth round that his team did not let him fight in the tenth round, and thus, ensuring his 26th professional victory.

The defeat has been the first for Olivier Lontchi in his professional career. Now, his professional record stands at 18 wins including 8 knock outs, 1 defeat and 2 ties. For Marquez, his professional record improves to 26 wins including 24 knock outs without losing any game yet.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has announced his return to professional boxing after his 16-month absence from boxing. Former pound-for-pound king revealed that he had felt somebody needed to keep boxing up and running. That is why, he has decided to return to the boxing ring. He has also signed up for a welterweight fight with Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18 in what would be his come back match. Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been featured by his own boxing promotional company Mayweather Promotions, while Marquez has been featured by Golden Boy Promotions which is owned by former boxing great Oscar De La Hoya.

Mayweather’s return to boxing would fuel up another highly-anticipated bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the current pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao who knocked out Ricky Hatton on May 2, 2009 in Las Vegas. Mayweather would like to retain his world titles, but it would not be easy for the American boxer to be back with his top form following a 16-month absence from boxing.

Ricky Hatton Looking to Face Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather Jr. after Beating Manny Pacquaio

Ricky Hatton has expressed his interest to take on Floyd Mayweather, Jr in 2010 Summer in England. In fact, the star British fighter is gearing up to avenge for his defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather, Jr in 2007 in America. However, before facing Mayweather, the only boxer who could defeat Hatton so far in professional circuit, Ricky Hatton would like to face Juan Manuel Marquez, only if he can defeat Manny Pacquaio in a much-awaited junior welterweight bout scheduled to take place in May.

Well, it is not yet confirmed if Mayweather, Jr would return to boxing in July. If he really makes a come back in July, Juan Manuel Marquez is reportedly the most likely opponent for the American. If Marquez lines up to face Mayweather Jr in July, Hatton would not be able to face the Mexican boxer in July, and thus, he would have to face Mayweather Jr. at the end of this year in stead of Summer 2010.
