Oscar De La Hoya Retired from Professional Boxing

Oscar De La Hoya has at last retired from professional boxing as the Mexican-born American boxer announced his retirement at a press conference held in Los Angles on Tuesday (14 April 2009). The legendary boxer won 10 world boxing championship titles in six different divisions during his illustrious career and became one of the most popular boxers in the world. He was the no. 1 pound for pound boxer in 1997 according to Ring Magazine.

Regarding the reasons behind his retirement, Oscar De La Hoya said that it was his health which barred him to continue her career further as his health had not been responding as much as it used to in the past. However, the 36-year-old boxer has expressed his love for Boxing, stating that he was born to fight in the ring and it is not fair that he will not be able to fight anymore in the ring.

Oscar De La Hoya was not enjoying very good time inside the ring over the last few years as he lost four of his last seven fights and aside from these 4 loses, Oscar De La Hoya had lost only twice previously. His humiliating eight-round knock out defeat to Manny Pacquiao last December is considered to have played a big role behind his retirement decision. In his 45 professional fights, Oscar De La Hoya won 39 times including 30 knock outs and 6 losses.
